I've used it to find connections to employers that I am interested in, and successfully used these connections to get a recommendation and then a job.
I've also had recruiters contact me with interesting jobs (I've never taken one, as they've mostly been US-based), but they do look for candidates there.
In today's age, in tech, LinkedIn is used quite a lot!
